Sparta Historical Society program on Highlands set for March 9

    Sparta - The Sparta Historical Society will host “Treasures at Risk,” a program on the Highlands, presented by Wilma Frey, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, at the Sparta Ambulance Building, 14 Sparta Ave. Frey has been an environmental advocate for more than 35 years. She has worked with the N.J. Conservation Foundation, the Highlands Coalition N.J. Committee and grassroots groups in the Highlands region, sharing her expertise in communications, environmental policy, government relations, advocacy and community organizing . Previously, Frey was a regional coordinator for the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy; a consultant to the Wilderness Society, Grand Canyon Trust and others, a Washington, D.C., lobbyist for the Sierra Club’s northeast region, and a landscape architect in private practice. She is a former chair of the New England chapter of the Sierra Club. After undergraduate study at the University of Michican and Rhode Island School of Design, Frey received masters’ degrees from Harvard University in both landscape architecture and public administration. Her photographs appear in many conservation publications. She currently resides in Mountainville, Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County.
