Sparta - The township council looked at a conceptual design of a recreational facility to be built in the White Lake community. “The design was intended to be a multigenerational destination park so that there would be opportunities for both passive and active areas for all age groups and all residents in the town,” said Virginia Mohr, director of parks and recreation. The township bought the property a few years ago with the intention of developing a parks and recreation area, she said. The park includes baseball fields, volleyball and basketball courts with extended parking, and other recreational areas. The plan for the park was a culmination of input from new town sports organizations that have knowledge of the needs for additional recreational areas, and a study done by the recreation advisory committee, which consisted of the township manager, engineers, and the parks supervisors, Mohr said. All of the different ideas were considered for the plan, and the department had to figure out how to place the suggested recreational areas. “We did that the assistance of a design consulting firm,” Mohr said. The parks and recreation department is currently waiting for the township council to find out how much the design will cost and ultimately approve funding. “I don’t anticipate that it will change drastically,” Mohr said. The council is going to review the design plan at its Nov. 21 meeting.
