Sparta native wins Fulbright scholarship

    Sparta - Michael Stanislowsky of the University of Washington has been nominated to receive a Fulbright grant to Bulgaria in economic development, the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently. Stanislowsky will be one of more than 1,000 U.S. students to travel abroad for the 2005-2006 academic year through the Fulbright program. Stanislowsky, the son of Patricia Brady and Stephen Stanislowsky, graduated from Sparta High School in 1995 and received a B.A. degree in history from Montclair State before moving on to the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs for his MPA. As a graduate student, he participated in the Peace Corps Masters International program and spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bulgaria, working on municipal development projects. After completing his service, Stanislowsky returned to the University of Washington, where he completed his MPA in December 2004. He is currently working for CARE International in Kabul, Afghanistan. He will begin his Fulbright research scholarship in February.
