Sparta - The Sparta High School chapter of the National Honor Society held a fundraiser selling wristbands during lunch periods in the high school cafeteria. Proceeds will be donated to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, a non-profit organization that provides college grants and financial assistance to surviving children and spouses of U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as well as to disabled service members and their families. This event was scheduled in coordination with NHS chapters in Boonton, Franklin Lakes, Hackettstown, Jefferson, Lenape, Madison, Montville, Morris Knolls, Mount Olive, Ramapo, Ramsey, Willingboro, and Wood-Ridge. Sparta High School National Honor Society, under the direction of their advisor, Debra Allshouse, has 96 members. New members will be formally inducted at the April 17 candlelight ceremony. The NHS is involved in many activities at the school including: ushering at the fall drama and the spring musical, serving as guides for parents at Back-to-School night; offering a peer tutoring program and running an annual blood drive. This year’s blood drive is scheduled for May 16 in the annex gym at the school.
