Sparta officially dedicates its skate park

    Sparta - The Thomas Murray Memorial Skate Park was officially dedicated on Oct. 30, with a ceremony and a demonstration by professional skaters. Sparta Mayor Ailish Hambel and Suzanne Sowinski, representing the executors of the Thomas Murray Memorial Fund, headed the ceremony, which included the unveiling of a bust and plaque in honor of Thomas Murray. The dedication of the park is the culmination of a community-wide effort. More than 150 residents and organizations contributed to the completion of the skate park, including Washington Mutual Bank; John Kapusta, owner of JB Contracting; Mountain Creek; Virginia Mohr, director of the Sparta Parks and Recreation Department and Anthony Imbimbo.
