June 9 At 2:13 p.m., Sparta Patrolman Richard Smith was on routine patrol on Route 15, when he observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The driver, Joseph Ciannella, 55, of Scranton PA, was subsequently arrested for possession of less than 50 grams of Marijuana. He was transported to Sparta Police Department for processing and was charged with possession of a controlled and dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain a lane of travel. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. At 8:07 p.m. Sparta Police responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Glen Road, near the intersection of Edison Road. Officers observed one of the cars in the wooded area off the westbound lane. The second vehicle came to rest in the middle of the road. The driver of the first vehicle sustained a small laceration to the head and was transported to Newton Hospital for treatment. The passenger was uninjured. The driver of the second vehicle, age 17, was charged with driving while intoxicated. He sustained injuries that required medical attention. The driver was additionally charged with, assault by auto and reckless driving. He was released pending required court appearances. June 10 At 12:56 a.m. Patrolman Joseph Pensado responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Route 517 near Surrey lane. The officer found a vehicle off the roadway in the nearby woods. The driver, Thomas Hayducka, 41, of Newton, was uninjured. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Sparta Police department processing where he was charged with DWI, careless driving and failure to maintain the lane of travel. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. At 3:36 a.m. patrolmen Kurt Morriss and Frank Schomp responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident on Glen Road and Nazzarine Lane. The driver of the vehicle, Whitney Buck, 20, of Sparta, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to the Sparta Police Department for processing where she was additionally charged with reckless driving and failure to keep right. She was released pending a municipal court appearance. June 11 At 12:29 a.m. Sparta Patrolman Frank Schomp was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle fail to stop at a traffic light. After stopping the vehicle, the driver Jack Marinov, 24, of Newton, was found to be operating with a suspended license. Further investigation produced an amount of heroin as well as several syringes. Marinov and the passenger, Amanda Eibon, 20, of Newton, were arrested and transported to Sparta Police Department for processing. Marinov was additionally charged with possession of heroin, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, failure to maintain lamps, disregard of a traffic signal, speeding and possession of a controlled and dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. The passenger, Eibon, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and allowing a suspended driver to operate a motor vehicle. They were both released pending required court appearances.
