June 7 A Wantage Township man faces multiple charges after he crashed his car late Thursday night. At 11:16 p.m., Sussex County Sheriff’s Officer William Ficaccia was off duty when he came upon a one-car accident on Route 94 near the Sussex Technical School. He contacted Sparta Police and reported the accident while advising that no one appeared to be injured. He then stood by until officers arrived on scene. Officer Frank Schomp arrived and found a Toyota disabled in the northbound lane with heavy front-end damage. The vehicle had struck a concrete wall before coming to a stop in the roadway. The operator Robert Freeman Jr., 37, was arrested after he failed a series of field sobriety tests. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and breath testing. Freeman’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. Freeman was charged with DWI, careless driving, and failure to maintain a single lane of travel. Freeman was released several hours later to a sober adult. His vehicle was impounded.
