December 28 At 11:18 p.m., Officer Kurt Morris was flagged down by a motorist and advised of an accident on Woodport Road. Further investigation revealed that a vehicle had driven off the roadway and struck some trees near the Bowling Alley. The driver, Kenneth Faber, 47, of Hamburg was injured in the accident and taken to Newton Hospital by the Sparta First Aid Squad. Farber was charged with failing to maintain a lane of travel, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, and failing to wear a seatbelt. December 29 At 11:16 p.m., Sergeant Neil Spidaletto stopped a car on Glen Road for having a taillight out. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Danielle Kulisz, 18, of Newton. She has been charged with failing to maintain lamps and driving while intoxicated. She was later released. January 1 At 1:49 a.m., Officer Marc Rubino observed a car on Woodport Road having difficulty maintaining a lane of travel. After stopping the car, further investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Michael Kautzmann, 19, of Randolph, He was charged with failing to maintain a lane of travel, careless driving, consumption of alcohol in a vehicle, driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance in a vehicle, possession of alcohol by an underage person, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released. At 4:34 p.m., Sparta police received a call about an erratic driver on Route 15. Officer Joe Pensado stopped the vehicle at the 8-mile mark in Jefferson. The investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver Jared Stun, 27, of Hasbrouck Heights. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, driving while suspended, being an unlicensed driver, having no insurance, use of fictitious plates, failing to keep right, unsafe lane changes, careless driving, failure to produce documents, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance in a vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of stolen property. He was later lodged in the Sussex County jail on outstanding warrants. At 11:23 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 517 in Sparta near the Ogdensburg Borough border. According to police, Fuh M. Han, 60, of Hamburg was traveling north, when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the southbound lane where it was broad sided by a car operated by 27-year-old Ian R Allen, also of Hamburg. A passenger in the second vehicle, 53-year-old Clothilde Mumba suffered facial, neck and back injuries. She was flown by Northstar Medivac to Morristown Hospital for treatment. Her husband, Paulin Mumba, was uninjured. Allen suffered minor cuts and scrapes but refused treatment at the scene. Han who had to be extricated from her vehicle using the “Jaws Of Life” suffered, neck and back injuries and was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital in Sussex for treatment. The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Franklin Borough Police Department, the Ogdensburg Police Department, the Sparta Fire Department, and the Sparta First Aid Squad assisted at the scene.
