On Sunday, May 20, at 1:47 a.m., Corporal Ray Mueller was on routine patrol on East Mountain Road when he noticed a white Nissan Pathfinder fail to signal a turn. The vehicle then proceeded onto Woodport Road, being driven in an erratic manner. Mueller stopped the vehicle and, after an investigation, arrested the driver Rory Fioretti, 21, of West Orange for driving while intoxicated. Fioretti was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing. He was additionally charged with failure to maintain lane, failure to signal a turn and careless driving. He was released pending a required court appearance. On Saturday, May 26, at 8:26 p.m., off-duty Sgt. Glen Dusz, observed a Jeep Cherokee being operated in an erratic manner on Stanhope Road. Dusz contacted police headquarters and provided the vehicle’s location until Patrolman Scott Elig was able to stop the car on Sparta Avenue. The driver, Daniel Reed, 51, of Landing, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing and was also charged with careless driving, failure to maintain lamps, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, having an expired registration, having improperly tinted windows, failure to produce a valid insurance card and registration, failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to notify change of address. Mr, Reed was released pending a required court appearance. The passenger in the vehicle, Kathryn VanAuken, 25, of Hamburg, was issued a summons for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and for failing to wear a seatbelt, On Sunday, May 27 at 11:37 p.m., Patrolman Jeff McCarrick and Patrolman Adam Carbery were on routine patrol, on Route 15 North when they observed a black Isuzu Rodeo turn onto the Route 181 jughandle going the wrong way on the one-way access road. The driver, Denis Alekseyev, 30, of Paterson was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing. He was also charged with careless driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He was released pending a required court appearance. On Sunday, May 27 at 2:36 a.m., Corporal. John Lamon was assigned to the DWI check point operation site on Route 15. He directed a red Dodge Durango into the checkpoint area. Lanon smelled the odor of alcohol within the vehicle. The driver Gregory Nicholas Jr, 18, of Newfoundland, Pa denied having consumed any alcohol. The passenger Dale Pascavagc, 37, of Lakeville Pa., was found to have narcotic paraphernalia under his legs, Further investigation revealed two “crack stems” in the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested. As Pascavage was being searched, Patrolman Joseph Pensado, found two plastic bags containing cocaine. Both men were transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing. Pascavage was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine) and drug paraphernalia. Bail was set for Pascavage in the amount of $12,500. He was lodged in the Sussex County Jail, Nicholas was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics in a motor vehicle. He was released pending a required court appearance.
