    May 1 Ptl. Adam Carbery stopped Louis Carnevale, 78, of Newton, on Main Street, for driving while suspended. Carnevale had just left the Sparta Municipal Court, where he had appeared on a charge of driving while suspended. He was also charged with having a suspended registration. Carnevale was released pending another appearance in Sparta Municipal Court on May 8. May 4 At 2:23 p.m. a 17-year-old student at Sussex Technical School was arrested and charged with possession of CDS (marijuana) and unlawful possession of a weapon. The juvenile was processed at Sparta police headquarters and released to his father, pending a hearing in family court. May 5 Sgt. J.P. Beebe was on routine patrol on Route 15 at 4:17 a.m. when he stopped a gray Mazda that was being operated at a high speed. The driver, Thomas Neigh, 36, of Nutley, was subsequently arrested for DWI. He was transported to the Sparta police station for processing. Beebe was also charged with speeding, careless driving and failure to observe a traffic control device. He was later released pending a municipal court appearance. Officer Joseph Pensado was on routine patrol on East Shore Trail at 12:56 a.m. when he stopped a Silver Trailblazer for driving in an erratic manner. The driver, Victor Guadagno, 66, of Sparta, was subsequently arrested for DWI. He was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing. Guadagno was also charged with careless driving and failure to keep right. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. May 6 Officer Kurt Morris was on routine patrol on Woodport Road at 12:42 a.m. when he stopped a blue Volvo that which was being operated at a high speed. The driver Andrew Caselnova, 36, of Sparta, was subsequently arrested for DWI. He was transported to the Sparta police station for processing. Caselnova was also charged with careless driving and speeding. He was released pending a municipal court appearance. May 7 At 1:34 p.m., Cpl. Lou Takacs was on routine patrol on Route 15 when he stopped a beige Blazer for a lane change violation. The driver, Scott Shevlin, 24, of Greeley, Pa., was arrested for possessing under 50 grams of marijuana. He was transported to Sparta police headquarters for processing, where he was additionally charged with traffic on marked lanes, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphemalia. Shevlin was released pending a Municipal Court Appearance. Ptl. Adam Carbery was on DWI patrol on Route 15 at 12:41 a.m. when he stopped a gray Chevrolet for failing to maintain the lane of travel. The driver, Katie Pelton, 18, of Port Jervis, N.Y., was subsequently arrested for possession of CDS (heroin), possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, failure to maintain lane of travel and failure to exhibit documents. The passenger, Teresa Bea, 36, of Port Jervis, N.Y., was arrested and charged with possession of CDS (cocaine), hindering apprehension by destruction of evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia After processing, Pelton and Bea were released pending court appearances.
