Sept. 17 At 10:07 a.m. the Sparta Township Police Department as well as the Sussex County Crash Team investigated a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred on Stanhope Road. Gary Wasilewski, age 54, of Somerset, N.J., was traveling north on Stanhope Road on a motorcycle. Hazel Wiley, age 65, of Sparta had a left turn into a driveway. Jeff Mase was alerted by members of the Sparta First Aid Squad of a Silver Acura being driven in an erratic manner on Sparta Junction. Sgt. Mase made contact with the vehicle on Sparta Avenue. The driver Debra Gallo, age 37, of Sparta was arrested for D.W.I. Gallo was transported to the Sparta Police Department for processing. She was additionally charge with failure to keep right, careless driving, impeding the flow of traffic, failure to produce a registration card and maintenance of lamps. She was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Gallo was released pending a required court appearance. Sept. 23 At 12:17 a.m. Cpl. John Lamon was on routine patrol on East Shore Trail, when he observed a blue Jaguar stopped in the roadway. The driver, Linda Cummings, age 52, of Sparta, was talking on her cell phone. Cummings was subsequently arrested for D.W.I. She was transported to the Sparta Police Department for processing. She was additionally charged with refusing to submit to a breath test and obstructing passage of other vehicles. She was released pending a required court appearance. Sept. 24 At 8:14 p.m. Patrolmen Kurt Mujrris and Frank Schomp responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 15 and White Lake Road. A black Jeep Cherokee, driven by Lynn Bergman, age 33, of Rockaway, N.J., was stopped at the traffic light. A Dodge Caravan, driven by Christopher Mulvihill, age 36, of West Caldwelll, N.J., struck Bergman’s vehicle from behind. There were no injuries. Mulvihill was arrested for D.W.I. The passengers in the Caravan were Mrs. Jane Mulvihill, age 36, and their three young children. Police said due to the fact that Mrs. Mulvihill was also under the influence of alcohol, the Caravan had to be driven to the Sparta Police Department by Ptl. Schomp. Mulvihill was additionally charged with careless driving and using a cell phone was operating a vehicle. Mrs. Mulvihill was charged with allowing an intoxicated person to operated a motor vehicle. They were released to a sober individual pending required court appearances.
