Sparta VFW to hold Veterans' Day ceremony

    Sparta — The Sparta Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold Veteran’s Day ceremonies outside its post hall, located at 66 Main St. in Sparta. The ceremonies start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will include a talk by the mayor, an award presentation to the families of past heroes, an invocation by the monseignor of Our Lady of the Lake Church, the playing of Taps, and a gun salute. Members of the police and fire departments and local Scout troops will be in attendance. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served inside the VFW hall. Before the ceremony, at about 10:15 a.m., Chaplain Martin Schweighardt will give a presentation on the history of the American flag to the community’s young people.
