Sparta Woman's Club aids Literacy Volunteers, library
Sparta - The Sparta Woman’s Club literature department recently donated funds to the Newton Chapter of Literacy Volunteers of America for training tools for tutors. A donation was also made to the Sparta Library for the purchase of several i-Pods, as well as books on tapes. Memorial donations of books are made by the department in the name of former Woman’s Club members. The most recent was a book purchased in the memory of Dorothy Enberg. The literature department meets at noon on the second Monday of the month at Knoll Heights’ Silver Café throughout the year. Members bring their own lunch; dessert and coffee is served by department hostesses. Each June a selection of books are scheduled for the year ahead. Books are reviewed by members, with an occasional guest reviewer. The department also sponsors an auction at the regular December meeting of the Woman’s Club to raise monies to promote literature and literacy.
