Sparta Woman's Club hosts craft auction, sets November schedule

Sparta - The November general meeting of the Sparta Woman’s Club convenes at noon Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. Following a complementary lunch of sandwiches and other goodies, attendees will get down to the business of bidding and buying at the club’s annual craft auction. Club members have been busy “crafting” all year, creating items to be auctioned for the benefit of the club. Newcomers are invited to join in the lunch and afternoon of auction fun and holiday shopping for a good cause. Other November activities, open to all members, include the following. The Mah Jongg group meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. All proceeds are donated to various Woman’s Club causes adopted by the group. For information, call 973-827-4980. The Savvy Investors Investment Group meets from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the first Thursday of every month (Nov. 3). For information, call 973-726-0394. The Circle of Yarns meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday. Particpants create pieces donated to various charities and hospital affiliates in the Sparta area. The Literature Department meets at noon on the second Monday every month (Nov. 14). This month’s selection is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. For information, call 973-729-6982. The Garden and Conservation Department generally meets on the second Tuesday, but this month will be meeting on Monday Nov. 14, at the Fisher Bldg for its annual wreath-making session. A multitude of greens, contributed by members, will be transformed into two large holiday wreaths to be donated to Newton Memorial Hospital. For information, call 973-729-2396. The Annual Cookie/Candy Project, will meet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Fisher Bldg. Members are busy baking cookies to fill the many coffee cans that have been collected throughout the year. The cookies will be distributed throughout the county in time for the holidays! The Money Makers Investment Group meets from 10 a.m. to noone every second Wednesday (Nov. 9). For information, call 973-726-6717. The Art Department meets the third Wednesday of the month (Nov. 16).
