Sparta - The education committee of the Sparta Woman’s Club has announced that $5,000 in scholarship money is slated to be given to graduating high-school senior girls who reside in Sparta and who are furthering their education. Also eligible to receive scholarships are Sparta women returning to school later in life. To help young women meet their academic goals, members of the club have held numerous fund raisers throughout the year and worked to raise the funds needed to provide for educational scholarships. “An investment in the education of our young women is an investment in the future,” said Karen Slember, education chairwoman of the club. Scholarship applications have been delivered to the guidance departments of Sparta High School, Sussex County Technical School and Pope John Regional High School. The Sparta Public Library has applications for distribution both for graduating seniors and adult women returning to school. The application deadline is May 1. The Sparta Woman’s Club is affiliated with the N.J. State Federation of Women’s Clubs and the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs, the largest international volunteer group. The group is a fervent supporter of education. For information, call 973-726-3239.
