Falco named to Second Team All CAA

SPARTA. The Sparta High School graduate won a team-high 48 ground balls for the Monmouth University (West Long Branch) lacrosse squad.

Many local student athletes made a positive impression in collegiate sports during the spring.

• Brianna Falco, a Sparta High School graduate, was a senior defender for the Monmouth University (West Long Branch) lacrosse squad. She started in all 17 games and won a team-high 48 ground balls. She twice was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week. She was also Second Team All CAA in 2023.

The Hawks posted an overall record of 9-8, with a mark of 7-4 at home. In the CAA, they earned three wins.

Falco is listed as majoring in operations and supply chain management.

• Aidan Maxwell (Sparta High School) was a junior midfielder for the Montclair State University lacrosse team. He competed in all 18 games and started in seven of them. He netted four goals and had two assists.

The Red Hawks posted an overall record of 10-8, and they were 5-4 on their home field. In the Coastal Lacrosse Conference, they went 2-3. They advanced to the conference tournament, where they went 1-1 with a victory over the University of Mary Washington and a loss to Salisbury University.

• Norah Monaghan (Sparta High School) was a freshman midfielder for the Montclair State University lacrosse team. She started in seven contests before suffering an injury. She had 19 goals (second-highest on the team) and one assist.

The Red Hawks had four overall wins, one they earned at home and one that they earned in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

• Angelina Barbero and Olivia Huffman, both graduates of Pope John XXIII Regional High School, were on the Fairleigh Dickinson University (Florham campus) softball team.

Barbero, a sophomore outfielder, played in 11 games and had two hits and scored four runs. Huffman, a sophomore catcher, competed in one game.

The Devils tallied an overall record of 15-16, with four wins on their home field. In the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Division, they posted six victories.

Barbero is listed as a sports management major, and Huffman as an anatomy and psychology major.
