Former Sparta standouts making their mark in college
Sparta. Several Sparta-area graduates, including Ally Sweeney, Logan Rozynski and Molly Chapman, are contributing to their college basketball and wrestling programs as the winter collegiate seasons continue.
Ally Sweeney (Sparta High School) is a junior guard for the University of Richmond (Virginia) women’s basketball program.
Sweeney started in each of the first 16 regular season games and averaged 9.9 points per game with 48 rebounds, 62 assists (second on the team) and 13 steals during that time.
Through 16 games the Spiders had an overall record of 12-4 with a mark of 5-1 on their home court. In the Atlantic 10 Conference they were 2-1. On Saturday, Richmond is slated to host Davidson in an Atlantic 10 matchup.
Logan Rozynski (Sparta/Blair Academy) is a sophomore competitor in the 157-pound weight class for the Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) wrestling program. Rozynski had an overall record of 4-2 in matches wrestled through Dec. 31.
Through December, the Mountain Hawks had three overall dual meet victories. On Saturday, Lehigh is scheduled to welcome Cornell for a dual meet. Rozynski is listed as an Arts and Sciences major.
Molly Chapman (Sparta High School) is a freshman forward on the roster of the Drew University (Madison, NJ) women’s basketball squad this season. Chapman played in each of the first 11 regular season games and averaged 5.6 points per game with 56 rebounds (second on team), 12 assists, 12 steals and four assists during that time.
Through Jan. 6, the Rangers had an overall record of 7-4 with a mark of 4-1 on their home court and two wins in the Landmark Conference. On Saturday, Jan. 17, Drew is scheduled to host Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference matchup. Chapman is listed as a Psychology major.
Logan Hrenenko (Sparta High School) is a freshman who competes in the 141-pound weight class for the Kutztown University (Pa.) wrestling program this winter season. Hrenenko placed third at the Bridgeport Open in Connecticut in November.
The Golden Bears had a 1-0 dual meet record through 2025, with the victory occurring on their home mat against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Seton Hill. Kutztown is scheduled to compete at the Virginia Duals in Hampton on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10. Hrenenko is listed as a Biology (Pre-Med) major.
Tyler Conlee (Sparta High School) is a freshman guard for the University of Mount Saint Vincent (Bronx, New York) men’s basketball team this year. Conlee played in seven of the first 11 regular season games and averaged 3.0 points per game with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals during that span.
Through Jan. 6, the Dolphins had one victory and on Jan. 17 they are scheduled to host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference contest.
