The Lions recorded their fourth straight shutout as Corrigan tackled a Cougar in the end zone for a safety, was credited with 11 tackles and recorded two tackles for losses as the Lions coasted to a 29-0 win over Kittatinny. Pete Hughes, a defensive lineman, jumped on a loose pigskin in the end zone for six points in the first quarter, when the Lions surged to a 17-0 lead. Offensively, Jeremy Tucker scored on runs of 2 and 80 yards, while quarterback Eugene McGuire plunged two yards into the end zone. Sparta 35, Jefferson 29 Sparta defeated Jefferson 35-29 despite an outstanding effort by the Falcons’ B.J. Stokes, who connected on 19 of 37 aerial attempts for 252 yards. He tossed TD passes of 38 yards to Manny Fanarjian, 20 yards to Matt Valentini and 25 yards to Buddy Miller and was not intercepted. John Kaschak blasted one-yard over the goal line to complete the Falcons’ scoring. Ryan Skorupka scored twice for the Spartans, running 18 yards into the end zone and hauling in a 27-yard TD strike from Tyler Reese, who also hooked up with Russ Mastriani on a 14-yard TD strike and Andrew Passerell with a 16-yard toichdown pass. Danny D’Angelo returned a punt 51 yards to paydirt to complete the Spartan scoring. Lenape 17, High Point 6 Lenape Valley surged to a 17-0 lead after 12 minutes and defeated High Point 17-6. Mike Groom busted two yards into the end zone, Joe Fritzky bolted four yards for a TD and Robbie Klnck split the uprights with a 33-yard field goal after booting a pair of extra points. High Point got on the board in the fourth quarter when quarterback Brian Konopka, who completed 13 of 24 passing attempts for 87 yards, hit Matt Khoury with a four-yard TD strike. Wallkill 20, Newton 8 In a non-league confrontation, Wallkill Valley rallied to defeat Newton 20-8, as Mike Hern exploded with TD runs of 60, 46 and 91 yards. Hern, who carried eight times for 211 yards rushing, was chosen the Independent Schools Player of the Week by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association as the Rangers upped their record to 5-3.
