Local youth qualifies for fencing championship
ROCKY POINT, NY — Over 800 of the best young fencers from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida , Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts and Toronto, Canada competed May 6 in the East Coast Mission Super Youth Circuit in Rocky point, NY.
Allen Trudnos, 13, a 7th grader at Pope John XXIII Middle School in Sparta, finished his matches in 29th place and is ranked 138th nationally in his category. Trudnos is ranked 11th in New Jersey in Youth 14 men's saber.
The Super Youth Circuit (SYC) is sanctioned by USA Fencing Association( USFA). SYCs are a group of events throughout the country for youth 10 to 14 years old age categories in 3 weapons : Saber , Foil and Epee for boys and girls. This is a great opportunity for USA best young fencing athletes to experience elite national level competitions throughout the USA. Fencers must be current competitive members of USFA. National points are awarded to top 40% of the competitive fencers from SYCs. SYCs are also qualifiers for 2018 National Summer Championships, will be host June 28 to July 07, 2018 in America Center Convention Plaza, St. Louis, Missouri.
Trudnos' perfomance in Rocky Point qualified him for the summer championships. This SYC was his first national tournament this year. He trains at the National Fencing Alliance in Sparta and Little Falls.
