NEWTON — Newton High School defeated Whippany Park High School (Morris County) in varsity field hockey on Friday, October 28. The final score was 4-1. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 quarterfinals took place at Newton High School.
Victoria Docherty, Morgan Mendel, Natalie Rivas and Nicole Rizzo each scored one goal for Newton. Newton's Lauren Barbato Natalie Rivas and Brittany Schumann each contributed one assist. Newton goalie Abby Berkowitz made two saves.
Alexa Marzullo scored Whippany Park's lone goal in the second half from a Jessica Klein assist.
Whippany Park goalie Hannah Klein blocked twenty one shots.
Team records: Newton Braves 15-3. Whippany Park Wildcats 11-8-2.
