After catching the ball Bishop McNamara's wide receiver Ervin Wilkins is grabbed by Pope John defensive back Joe Quitadamo in the first half. Wilkins was brought down but he held onto the ball and was not injured.

Pope John's Berrell Neal caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Niko Hroncich in the second quarter. Neal made two receptions for 41 yards resulting in two touchdowns. He also rushed for 56 yards.

SPARTA — Pope John XXIII Regional High School defeated Bishop McNamara High School (Forestville, Maryland) in varsity football on Saturday, September 2, 2017. The final score was 32-7. The game took place at Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta.
