NEWTON — Sparta High School defeated Newton High School in girls varsity soccer on Monday, October 30, 2017. The final score was 2-1. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament, First Round, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 game took place at Newton High School in Newton.
Anya Helmer and Bailey Kellenberger each scored a goal in the second half for ninth-seeded Sparta. Brianna Falco contributed an assist.
Sparta goalkeeper Julia Flake made five saves.
Kass Wojcik scored a goal in the first half for eighth-seeded Newton off an assist from Davis Ann Boyd.
Newton goalkeeper Karis Steele made six saves.
