Sparta PAL 4th graders take hoops championship

ROCKAWAY — The 4th Grade Sparta PAL Youth Basketball team won their Lakeland Midget Basketball League Championship. The team beat Randolph 32-27 on Sunday at Morris Hills High School. The team went on a thrilling 8-0 run in the final two minutes of the game to capture the championship in fine fashion.
The 4th grade team also went undefeated in the regular season, going a perfect 19-0. In the playoffs, Sparta's 4th grade team took down Long Valley in the quarterfinals and Lenape Valley in the semifinals to make it to the championship game.
The team's head coach is Dave Shagawat who was assisted by Jeff Kopco. The players on the team are #1 Luke Spelman, #2 Anthony Settembre, #3 Zachary Kopco, #10 Jaisen Caswell, #11 Hayden Kopco, #13 Marco Acquino, #20 Eric McCall, #24 Kristian Vozza, #25 Brady Shagawat, and #35 Christian Layman.
