Virtue delivers ace at golf tournament

    Sussex COunty — Casey Virtue captured local links honors for the week when he recorded a hole-in-one at Crystal Springs in Hamburg. Playing in a threesome with Ryan Hamilton and Ron McKay, Virtue drove off the 14th tee with his wedge, lofting the ball 147 yards to the green, where it rolled into the hole for an ace. George Miller teamed with Clark Perry to post the winning card of 54 in the Better-Ball Tournament at the Newton Country Club. Picking up the runner-up prize, four strokes back, was the duo of Mike Lippincott and Greg Meehan. There was a tie for third place at 59, between the team of Rick Boslen and Jim Karafa and that of Bob Dannhardt and Bernie Schultz. Finishing in fifth place with a 60 was the pair Tom Fox and Bill Monninger, while twosome Jim Riccio and Sam Silverberg carded a 61 to place sixth. Jim Weber posted a 36-hole card of 138 to win the President's Trophy Tournament at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. Finishing second with a score of 141 was Bill Steinhardt. At Lake Mohawk Country Club's Governor's Cup, in the two-man team semifinals, Dave Johnson and Roy Knutsen defeated Bob Deveney and Tom Nuttle, while Phil Dellehiale and Bill Patterson defeated Bob McGowan and Bill Moore.
