Women's club enjoys golf with international theme
SPARTA — The Lake Mohawk Golf Club Women's Association celebrated its annual Ladies Member/Guest Tournament on June 26, with the assistance of Steve Demmer, GM/Director of Golf and his assistant Nick Hyman.
The day could not have been more glorious with bright sunshine and moderate temperatures. Nine Booth and Joanne Arena, the event coordinators, along with their committee of elves transformed the dining room to a global theme. Each dining table was decorated with flags and décor representing a country with token gifts provided for each participant. Golfers started their day with a light breakfast before venturing off to play clever games prepared for each hole with travel posters on each tee.
After 18 holes players were treated to champagne and lunch. The kitchen staff prepared a travel themed buffet, sushi, Reubens, brie cheese to name but a few of the delectables. Laura Nifenecker of Café Pierrot generously donated cookies and pastry for dessert.
Tournament winners for low gross were Debbie Marcellus, Barbara Sellinger, Jannie Pelcher and Diana Kitson.
A great many prizes from golf shoe bags, golf gloves, visors, wine, and more were provided for raffle winners. Best dressed award for country costumes went to Lori Healy, Carol Gordon, Sheila Stewart and Andrea Linsky for their representation of a variety of Asian countries.
Other happenings of the women’s association at the club: Chef James conducted a cooking class on June 21. Patty Cronin organized the luncheon event and the attendees were shown how to prepare a chicken wrapped in bacon entrée along with apple filled empanadas for dessert. All were anxious to test their skills in their own kitchen making these delicious treats. The Book Club under the Committee leaders Claire Gallagher and Maureen Raccioppi are reading Women in Sunlight by Frances Mayes.
The Ladies Association at Lake Mohawk GC continues to grow and thrive.
