Wrestling scramble takes it to the mat

SPARTA — The 2016 Sparta Wrestling Scramble took place on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Sparta High School in Sparta. Funds generated at this event benefited the Sparta Youth Wrestling organization. Wrestlers from elementary school to high school age level participated.
As a team Sparta finished in third place overall with a total score of 35.
Male and female wrestlers from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania grappled on the mats.
The wrestling tournament began at 8:30 a.m. and ran well into the evening hours. The day's matches were split into two sessions starting with the under-12-year-olds and a 1:30 p.m. start for high school wrestlers.
The Sparta Scramble is a four-man Round Robin tournament and the Madison System is used to determine weights. Sparta High School wrestling coach Frank Battaglia supervised the event.
The coaching staff of Sparta High School and Sparta Youth Wrestling in collaboration with the boosters, work hard to continue to build a strong program for the future of Sparta Wrestling and put together the Sparta Wrestling Scramble.
The Sparta High School Wrestling Booster Club is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the spirit of teamwork, unity, good sportsmanship, athletic development and enjoyment. It strives to build, support and promote the Sparta wrestling team by helping to provide a quality instructional athletic wrestling program and build skill knowledge.
