STILLWATER — The Stillwater Inn was consumed by an early morning fire on Monday, Oct. 17. State police, as well as an arson investigator, responded to the scene along with fire departments from Newton and Branchville. “It’s still an active investigation,” said Det. Leif Bostrom with the NJ State Police. "Stillwater Village is special because many of its original buildings remain standing in large part because owners through the years have been faithful to the historic nature of their property," said Bob Grabowsky, President of the Historic Society of Stillwater Township. "The loss of the Stillwater Inn strikes a huge blow to the historic nature of our town. It truly is a terrible loss." Stillwater Inn owner Carmelo Maselli could not be reached for comment.
