Students make crafts to raise money
Stanhope The spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Byram. The students in Miss Susan Burck, Mrs. Lori Harrington and Mrs. Joan Corey’s classes wanted to help others. They decided to make ornaments to sell to other students in Byram Lakes School and to buy Christmas gifts for other children with the money they raised. With the help and support of their parents, the students began making signs and collecting ideas and materials for making beautiful ornaments. Using dough and cookie cutters, beads and pipe cleaners, glass balls and paint, paintbrushes and holly, and their own imaginations and creativity, the students went to work. They mixed, colored, cut and pasted to make the hundreds of ornaments. The response from students and their families was heartwarming. Everyone wanted to help. Students crowded the sale tables to buy an ornament, knowing that their purchases would help other children. The teachers were able to buy many gifts for the children, brightening their holidays. The highlight of this project was the joy the students got from working and giving to others.
