Sussex County Community College to host career symposium
Sussex County Community College will be hosting their annual Career Symposium on Tuesday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sussex Bank Theater at SCCC. This year, the Symposium will be showcasing three of the College’s degree programs, Criminal Justice, Fire Science Technology, and Paralegal Studies. The panel discussion will begin at 10 a.m. There will also be a number of exhibits and area employers on campus for recruitment and networking. Those who attend are encouraged to bring their resume. Sally Gibson, Coordinator of the Career Symposium and a Counselor at SCCC said, “The Career Symposium is a cross between a Job Fair, a Career Day and a College Open House. It is an opportunity to meet and talk with SCCC faculty teaching in the Criminal Justice and Paralegal Majors, as well as to network with professionals from the broad field of Criminal Justice. The panelists will include faculty and representatives from area Legal firms, the US Secret Service and the New Jersey State Police. There will be exhibits and time to talk with the faculty and professionals. The event is open to the public and SCCC staff will be on hand to offer information on College curriculums and programs.” The Symposium will begin with a panel composed of Sussex County Community College faculty members, Bill McGovern, Criminal Justice Program Coordinator; Maryann Rubino, Professor of Legal Studies; and Nancy Gallo, Professor / Legal Studies Programs Coordinator. The panel will also include: Special Agent Dennis Letts, U.S. Secret Service; Sergeant Wendy Cooney, NJ State Police; Ms. Teri Henninger, Legal Services of Northwest New Jersey; Ms. Susan Hughes, Laddey, Clark and Ryan, LLP; Ms. Karen Schulte, Kelly & Ward Esq.; and Ms. Joann Masaar, Selective Insurance. Bill McGovern said, “The Symposium is a great opportunity to meet participating Criminal Justice employers who able to show our students what career opportunities they offer.” Following the panel discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and network with area employers including: United States Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, New Jersey Parole, New Jersey State Police, Hamburg Police Department, New Jersey Army National Guard, Securitas Security Services, and Legal Services of Northwest Jersey. In addition, there will be exhibits featuring the SCCC Counseling Center, Criminal Justice program, Fire Science Technology program, and Paralegal Studies program at SCCC.
