Sparta - The Committee to Elect Ralph Flaherty to Council announced that a number of state and county leaders have joined the list of local supporters who have endorsed his candidacy. Assemblyman Guy R. Gregg has announced his support, as have all five members of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Flaherty also received the backing of County Clerk Erma Gormley. “While a councilman’s primary focus should be on local issues, it’s essential to have a good working relationship with all layers of government,” said Flaherty. “That’s why I reached out to these key individuals. I’m gratified that they have placed their confidence in my background, experience and willingness to work for all of the citizens of Sparta.” Assemblyman Gregg said Flaherty will be a partner in his efforts to provide for the residents of Sparta. “When I am in Trenton, I fight every day for the people of Sussex County, but I can’t do it alone,” said Gregg. “I need the help of strong elected officials on the local level who will help me fight for lower taxes, open space, and our fair share of aid from Trenton. I believe that Ralph Flaherty is the best person to help me fight for the people of Sparta.” Freeholder Gary Chiusano said, “Sparta has many challenging issues ahead, and Ralph has the support of the local officials. I support those who have worked with Ralph and their confidence in his ability to meet those challenges. I look forward to an even greater working relationship between Sparta Township and the County of Sussex.” Flaherty, who began his service to Sparta on the township planning board, is running on a platform of cooperation among all divisions of government and of financial responsibility.
