July 7 Angela Shaner, 31, formerly of Ogdensburg, pled guilty to the third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and to a motor vehicle ticket for failing to keep to the right. She is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 15. On Feb. 6, she was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine following a motor vehicle stop by Sparta Police Officer Rob Fraser. July 11 Mark Langan, 24, of West Milford, was sentenced to an aggregate indeterminate term not to exceed seven years at the Youth Correctional Complex of the Department of Corrections. He was given jail time credit of 277 days. He must also pay $5470 in restitution to the victims, submit a DNA sample and pay court fines of $555. He pled guilty on May 20 to aggravated arson, a crime of the second degree, and two counts of third degree arson. Langan admitted to setting fire to three separate residential structures between Feb. 12 and March 17, 2006, in Wantage Township, where he then resided, by pouring gasoline along their foundations and then lighting them with matches. He then responded to each of the fires as a firefighter with the Wantage Township Fire Department. Thomas Forder, 20, of Milford, Pa,, was sentenced to two years probation, 100 hours of community service, $2,205 in fines and a six month loss of driver’s license. He pled guilty on March 31 to the third degree crime of distribution of cocaine. He admitted to distributing five grams of cocaine to an individual cooperating with the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force. Ryan O’Connor, 27, of Vernon, was sentenced to three years probation, 300 days in county jail, six month loss of driver’s license and $1,205 in fines. He pled guilty on March 1 to the third degree crime of possession of heroin. He admitted to constructively possessing a small amount of heroin after a motor vehicle stop by Franklin Police Officer W. Grissom on Dec. 28, 2006. Louis A. Tassos,32, formerly of Franklin, was sentenced to three years probation, which may be transferred to his current place of residence, Kodak, Tenn. He was given credit 22 jail days. He must submit to a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, submit to random urine monitoring and perform 100 hours of community service. He must pay restitution of $2,161 joint and several with three co-defendants. He must pay total fines and penalties of $205 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. He pled guilty on Oct. 23, 2006,to burglary, a third degree crime. He had previously been enrolled in the PreTrial Intervention Program but was terminated from the program for noncompliance. He admitted his part in entering a home in Franklin on June 16, 2005, without the homeowner’s consent or knowledge, taking a safe from the home and taking the money stored in the safe. July 14 Terry Sanders, 27, of Vernon pled guilty to criminal restraint, a third degree crime; resisting arrest, a fourth degree crime; and criminal mischief, a disorderly persons offense. Sentencing i anticipated for Aug. 15. Sanders admitted that on or about Sept. 4, 2006, that he was involved in a domestic violence incident in Vernon Township. During the course of the incident, Sanders prevented the victim, an adult female, from leaving and caused damage to the victim’s car window. Sanders also admitted that when the police arrived, he resisted arrest. Sean Mitchell, 30, of Sussex, pled guilty to the third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 12. He admitted that on Feb. 8, he was found to be in possession of 11 bags of heroin when Vernon Police Officer William Mutz responded to a call for the defendant’s overdose. July 15S Eddie C. Norman, 53, of Newton entered a guilty plea to an indictment charging him with the fourth degree charge of possession of a weapon by a previously convicted felon. Norman admitted to the court that on or about Aug. 3, 2007, he had in his possession an ice pick. Noman also admitted that he had been convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Bergen County in 1995. July 16 Sean Michael Lyons, 45, formerly of Vernon, entered a guilty plea to an accusation charging him with one count of a fourth degree charge for a Megan’s Law violation for failure to register with the Vernon Township Police Department that he had moved to a new address. Lyons is a previously convicted sex offender from California. While residing in California he registered as a convicted sex offender. Under the provisions of Megan’s Law, Lyons was required to register with the local police that he had moved from California to Vernon Township, New Jersey. Lyons admitted to the court that between Feb. 8, 2002, and Feb. 8, 2007, he had moved to Vernon Township without registering with Vernon Township Police Department as a convicted sex offender. Lyons is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 12. July 18 A juvenile pled guilty to third degree criminal mischief and fourth degree criminal trespass. He was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent by the court. The juvenile, 16, was sentenced to 18 months probation with a six month driver’s license suspension. He must also submit a DNA sample, attend school every day and follow all home and school rules, complete 50 hours of community service, testify truthfully against co-defendant(s) and have no contact with co-defendant(s), write a letter of apology to the victim, pay restitution to the victim joint and several with co-defendants (amount yet to be determined) and pay $105 in court fines. Charles L. Gould, Jr., 25, of Andover, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years probation, mandatory fines and court costs. In addition, he is required to submit his DNA to the court. Gould pled guilty on June 16 to two counts of third degree burglary, one count of third degree theft and one count of fourth degree theft. He admitted to entering an abandoned Andover Township home and an Andover Township home that was under construction and removing copper piping. Espaniel Burnside, 32, of East Orange, was sentenced to probation for a period of one year. As a condition of Burnside’s probation he is to perform 50 hours of community service. He was also ordered to pay $155 in monetary penalties. He pled guilty on June 2 to criminal trespass, a fourth degree crime. Burnside admitted to the court that on or about Jan. 20 in Vernon he entered the residence of an adult female without her permission. Bobby Muldro, 38, of Union, was sentenced to six years state prison, $205 in fines and a 12-month loss of his driver’s license. He pled guilty on March 24 to the second degree crime of possession of a weapon while in the course of committing a drug distribution offense. He admitted to possessing a pair of metal knuckles while delivering cocaine to an individual cooperating with the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force. Craig McLean, 31, of Maplewood, was sentenced to six6 years state prison, $1,080 in fines and an 18-month loss of driver’s license. He pled guilty on May 27 to the second degree crime of accomplice liability for possession of a weapon during the course of a drug distribution offense, hindering his own apprehension and driving while suspended. He admitted that on Dec. 20, 2007, he drove his co-defendant, Bobby Muldrow, from Essex County to Hardyston Township for the purpose of delivering 100 bags of cocaine to an individual cooperating with the Sussex County Narcotics Task Force and that they possessed a pair of metal knuckles at the same time. He also admitted to giving a false name and address at the time he was processed following his arrest. John Kimberlin, 38, of Port Jervis, N.Y, was sentenced to three years probation, 19 days credit for time served in jail, outpatient substance treatment, $1,205 in fines and a six-month loss of his driver’s license.. He pled guilty on June 2 to the third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He admitted to possessing eight bags of heroin during a motor vehicle stop in Sparta on June 13, 2005. July 21 Heather Rempkowski, 24, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., was sentenced to three years in state prison and two years’ loss of license. In addition, she must pay mandatory fines and court costs, submit her DNA to the state and undergo drug abuse counseling. Rempkowski pled guilty on June 2 to third degree theft and burglary. She admitted to entering a relative’s home without permission and taking jewelry, prescription drugs and money. Ann M. Brown, 46, of Newton pled guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon, a third degree crime. Sentencing is anticipated for Sept. 12. She was arrested for stabbing an adult male during the course of a domestic violence incident. July 25 Donald L. Finklea, 48, of Newton, was sentenced to three years in state pPrison. He must also submit his DNA. He was also ordered to pay mandatory fines and court costs to the court. Finklea pled guilty on June 9 to third degree burglary. He admitted to taking an envelope containing $100 cash from a cashbox in an office in Newton that was not open to the public at the time. Eric Holdfolder 39, of Newark, was sentenced to two consecutive 18-month terms in the custody of the New Jersey State Prison. He must also submit a DNA sample, pay court fines of $380 and pay restitution totaling $10,062.11, joint and several with his co-defendant, to the various victims. He pled guilty on June 9 to fourth degree receiving stolen property and fourth degree criminal mischief. In January, the defendant and a co-defendant attempted to break into a home in Vernon Township. When arrested, proceeds from another burglary were discovered. Ilya Belous, 22 of Parsippany was sentenced to three years probation, 90 days SLAP with 13 days credit. He must maintain employment, submit to random urine testing, submit to DNA testing and pay restitution of $22,775. Fines and costs are in the amount of $205. He pled guilty on Sept. 4, 2007, to burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, both third degree crimes. On Feb. 8, 2005, the defendant burglarized a home in Vernon Township and stole a safe containing approximately $20,000. July 18, 2008 Sussex County Prosecutor David J. Weaver announced the sentencing of a juvenile, who appeared before the Honorable James A. Farber, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on, July 17, 2008. The juvenile pled guilty on July 17, 2008, to two counts Burglary and Criminal Mischief, all third degree crimes. He was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent by the court. The juvenile, age 15, was sentenced to 18 months probation with a six month driver’s license suspension when he turns 17. He must also submit a DNA sample, attend school every day and follow all home and school rules, complete 75 hours of community service, testify truthfully against co-defendant(s) and have no contact with co-defendant(s), write a letter of apology to the victim, pay restitution to the victim joint & several with co-defendants (amount yet to be determined) and pay $105 in court fines. In March the juvenile and several juvenile co-defendants entered the home of the victim and damaged several areas of the home while in there. The juvenile was represented by Gary Kraemer, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Jerome P. Neidhardt. PRESS RELEASE July 21, 2008 Sussex County Prosecutor David J. Weaver announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable N. Peter Conforti, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on July 21, 2008 by Nicholas B. Wasson. Wasson, age 24, of Sparta, pled guilty to Assault by Auto and Driving While Suspended/MVA with Serious Bodily Injury, both are fourth degree crimes. Sentencing is presently anticipated for September 19, 2008. On February 10, 2007, Wasson admitted to driving a vehicle recklessly by passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone and then striking Stephen Koch’s vehicle head-on in Koch’s lane of travel. Koch sustained serious bodily injury. Wasson was also driving with a suspended license. The crash occurred on West Mountain Road in Sparta Township. Wasson also admitted that he was in violation of a previously imposed sentence of probation. Wasson was represented by Robert E. Dunn, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Michael W. Briegel. July 21 Nicholas B. Wasson, 24, of Sparta, pled guilty to assault by auto and driving while suspended/MVA with serious bodily injury; both are fourth degree crimes. Sentencing is anticipated for Sep. 19.
