Swim-A-Thon' to benefit people with special needs
Hardyston - The Sussex County YMCA will host a Swim-A-Thon’ from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. The event is open to people of all ages regardless of whether they are a member of the YMCA. “This event will play an important role in our efforts to make our facility more user friendly for people with special needs,” said David Carcieri, executive director of the Sussex County YMCA. “Our hope is that people will recognize the importance of such an undertaking and solicit people to sponsor for them as they swim for this noble cause.” Beginning at 9 a.m. participants will swim in four designated age groups at different times. Group 1 (20 years and over ) will swim from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Group 2 (15 to 20 years old) will swim from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Group 3 (7 to 14 years old) will swim from 11 a.m. to noon; and Group 4 (ages 7 and under, with families) will finish off the event with a half-hour swim from noon to12:30 p.m. All participants will receive special gifts from the YMCA’s sponsors. A minimum donation of $15 per individual and $20 per family is required to participate in this event. The participant with the highest donation over $150 will receive a gift certificate, redeemable for a month membership at the YMCA. For more information, call 973-209-9622.
