mature years Newton — One of the major difficulties of advancing years is the progressive loss of stability, balance, resilience and confidence, which often results in serious falls and long periods of recuperation. Among its many benefits, Tai Chi can help restore and maintain balance, improve circulation, lower the center of gravity, deepen breathing and safely limber up joints and muscles. To help achieve these benefits, Newton Memorial Hospital is offering a seven-week Tai Chi class for the mature years. The seven-week series will run from 10-11:30 a.m., Thursdays, Sept. 8 through Oct. 20, at the Sparta Health and Wellness Center at 89 Sparta Avenue in Sparta. The fee is $57 for the whole series. As with any exercise program, individuals should check with their physician first, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Pre-registration is required.
