The 36th annual Sparta Day will offer a host of activities
SPARTA On Saturday the GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta (JWCS) together with the Sparta Parks and Recreation Department, will be hosting the 36th annual Sparta Day. The event will be held on the grounds of the Mohawk Avenue School and Sparta Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Kids’ Country, one of the most popular areas of Sparta Day, will be bursting with new activities. Children should come early to Kids’ Country to take part in a Children’s Chalk Art Display that will decorate the walkway to Kids’ Country for the rest of the day. The Chalk Art Drawing will be held between 10 and 11 a.m. Look out for Rita’s Ice Guy handing out coupons for free ices to the first 100 people in Kids Country, and Subway’s Subman, handing out a limited number of coupons for free items. Sparta Day is a vendor/craft fair and family fun festival that has become not only a fundraiser for local charities, but also a much anticipated and widely enjoyed community event. In addition to Kids’ Country, the JWCS anticipates 150 vendors on the main field, live entertainment and a food and beverage area that will appeal to all attendees. Admission is free. For the first time, Sparta Day will include a Tricky Tray, with a range of prizes. The Tricky Tray will be held in the Mohawk Avenue Annex Gym by Kids’ Country. A 50/50 and raffle tickets for a $1,000 gift card donated by J. Thomas Jewelers will be available. Raffle tickets may be purchased before the event at Sparta Books or J. Thomas, or on the day of the event from the JWCS booth. Participants do not need to be in attendance to win a prize. The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta is celebrating its 44th year. Members are dedicated to community involvement through volunteer service. For more information about Juniors see www.jwcsparta.org for details.
