The first of Sparta's scattered war memorials was moved to its new location Tuesday to become part of a planned Veteran's Walk in front of the VFW Hall on Main St. This stone includes an Honor Roll listing the names of 30 Sparta citizens who lost their lives in service to their country during World War I. Shown here are, from left, Township Manger David Troast, Marty Schweighardt of the township Parks and Monuments Committee, Chris Hayden, and Joe Pilkington of Hayden's Auto and Truck Repair on Demarest Rd. in Sparta. Hayden volunteered his services and equipment to move the stone from its previous location near the Library. Veteran's Day services will be held in front of the VFW Hall tomorrow at 11 a.m. The line up of elevens tomorrow on 11-11-11 will not happen again for another 100 years.
