The Sussex County Academy of Dance wins national honors

SPARTA - The Sussex County Academy of Dance’s Performing Arts Company participated in a national contest, which consisted of 30 dance schools throughout the United States with the Sussex County Academy of Dance taking top honors in several categories. The Performing Arts Company’s senior level, ages 16-18, were national champions in the ballet and modern categories and placed third in the open category. The Performing Arts Company’s Petite level placed fourth overall with their ballet number and fifth overall with their Jazz number. The petite level also took some individual honors with Sofia and Sebastian Cook as National Champions in the ballet duet division, Elijah Cook and Katie Hoffmann as National Champions in the Lyrical Duet Division and Katie Hoffmann as the national champion in the Petite Jazz Solo Division. Other individual honors are Christina DeGasperis is the National Champion in the Junior Ballet Solo Division and Kiana Grant placed third in the Junior Open division. Maryann Lucas won the national championship in the Musical Theater Division with Kira Stanley placing third in the same category. Out of the 77 Senior Solo numbers performed at the competition, Sara Parker placed ninth overall and out of the 91 Junior Solo numbers Christina DeGasperis placed ninth overall.
