Tire slashing incidents keep police busy
Early Sunday morning Nov. 12, a resident of Merriam Avenue called the Newton Police to report that two of the tires on his vehicle had been slashed. Shortly afterward, police were called to Main Street for another report that a tire had been slashed on a resident’s vehicle. Police Officers responding to investigate the incidents then discovered more vehicles located on Main Street and Paterson Avenue that had their tires slashed. Officers informed the residents there of their findings and began to investigate. The investigation showed that the tires were slashed between the hours of 11 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. Sunday. In all, there were five victims’ vehicles and 6 tires that were slashed causing approximately $600 worth of damage. Acting on tips, police conducted several interviews which led to the arrest of two 15 year old males and one 14 year old male for slashing the tires of the vehicles with a knife. The juveniles were residents of Newton and they committed the acts of criminal mischief together. They were charged with Criminal Mischief on Juvenile Delinquency Complaints. After their arrest, they were released pending hearings in Family Court.
