SPARTA - The children at Kiddie Academy in Sparta raised $744 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital at the first-ever “Trike-a-thon,” held Sept. 30. Their donation will go to the care of children hurt in Hurricane Katrina, who are being treated at the renowned research hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Each child participating in the Trike-a-thon asked friends and family members to sponsor them, donating money for every lap they rode on the “trike course” that morning. Some of the children, who ranged in age from 3 - 6 years old, did 50 laps around the course, which spanned the length of the parking lot (approximately 190 ft x 45 ft). “This was no easy feat for their little peddling feet!” noted Mickie Wood, director of Kiddie Academy. “Congratulations Kiddie Academy Kids!” added Wood. “Together, you made a difference.”
