Newton - Valley National Bank recently pledged $25,000 to the Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation’s capital campaign. The pledge is designated for the expansion of the hospital’s emergency room facilities. “We recognize the critical need for a state-of-the art emergency room facility that will meet the long-term needs of our employees and our community,” said Debra Meister vice president and regional manager of Valley National Bank. This year, Newton Memorial’s emergency room will serve about 30,000 patients, in a facility designed for half that number. A new emergency room will enable the hospital to serve as many as 40,000 patients each year, at a time when the need for critical care has been heightened, and more people are gravitating to emergency facilities for treatment. “To build the new emergency room facilities we needed to raise $6 million, and Valley National Bank has helped contribute towards that goal,” said Sean O’Rourke, senior vice president and COO of Newton Memorial Hospital and Foundation president. “We are proud to join local business leaders in support of this fundraising effort and encourage others in the community to work together in achieving these important health care goals.”
