Article biased against bears

To the Editor: An article by Joseph Harkins in your Dec. 8 issue, titled “Hunters take to the Woods for Bears,” cited an incident earlier in the year when a bear allegedly bit a sleeping camper. However, some key information was omitted, such as the fact that the camper had food hidden in his sleeping bag, and that the bear was only a 142-pound cub. The alleged “bite” was a result of the bear grabbing the sleeping bag, not a malicious attempt to bite the person. The manner in which the article was written clearly made a case against the bears. An almost identical article was seen in the Associated Press a few days prior, and one can only wonder why the whole story was not reported. Marilyn Stueben-Brasuell Glenwood
