GOP web ad calls out NJ Governor Murphy

Assembly Republicans posted a two-minute video with Assemblyman John DiMaio explaining the truth behind Gov. Phil Murphy’s actual spending increases.
Murphy has repeatedly said his proposed budget for next year only increases spending by $651 million, when his proposal is actually $1.2 billion more than the budget he signed into law last year.
“That’s because he’s comparing apples to oranges instead of apples to apples,” explains DiMaio (R-Warren), the Republican budget officer.

Left out of Murphy’s claim is that the state Legislature spent another $629 million outside the budget process, much of which was for one-time projects.
“Murphy points to these adjusted appropriations to set an easier benchmark,” explains DiMaio. “That’s intellectually dishonest.”
Former-Gov. Chris Christie’s final budget totaled $34.7 billion. Compared with Murphy’s $38.6 billion proposal for next year, state spending is slated to increase 11.2 percent.
