Goldberg gets involved

To the Editor: A recent editorial was titled, “The real civics lesson: Get involved.” We have a senior citizen in town who exemplifies that message: Manny Goldberg, who is running for town council on June 13. Manny Goldberg gets involved. He has the time and interest to attend council, school board and planning board meetings, and the experience and intelligence to respectfully challenge our town’s decision makers. He joined the school-community task force to get fully informed and to help recommend the best path forward for Sparta students and our town. Manny volunteers his time and good humor at the Sparta Senior Center, at Helen Morgan Elementary School as a weekly guest reader, and at Newton Memorial Hospital. He is committed to improving the quality of life for everyone. He listens and he thinks about what he can do to help, and then he does it. Manny was an officer in the Navy and a chemical industry executive, and in those roles he gained management, communication, financial and analytical skills - all of which are critical for town council members. It’s time for the town council to change, so that Sparta’s management team has fresh viewpoints and sharper skills. Manny’s community interests and professional background are well suited to the role, and he cares about Sparta. Having lived here with his family for over 30 years, he’s not one of the “insiders” who have been running Sparta for years - and that’s a good thing. Are you happy with how the town has been run? Then it’s time for that civics lesson - get out and VOTE. James Nam Sparta
