Bombastic Trump is an embarrassment

Donald Trump stood before assembled world leaders and told them that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, i.e., the deal to limit Iran’s ability to build nuclear weapons, is an embarrassment to the United States.
Actually it’s Donald Trump and his bombastic public statements that are an embarrassment to the United States.
Sitting in the audience as Trump uttered this insult were leaders of the other nations who, along with the United States, negotiated the Iran Deal. Regardless of the merits of the Iran deal, was this the time and place to make such an outrageous statement? Did Trump intend to apply the naiveté and incompetence that he attributes to Barack Obama and John Kerry, equally to the leaders of China, Britain, France, Germany, the European Union, Russia and China? Does Trump think that it helps further our country’s goals to use the United Nation podium to insult these people?
Trump also spoke about North Korea. Addressing an institution that was created to promote peace through discussion, i.e., the General Assembly of the United Nations, Trump threatened to “totally destroy North Korea.” In doing so, he validated North Korea’s repeated assertion that it fears that the United States is out to “totally destroy North Korea”, and therefore is justified to squander its scant resources to develop nuclear bombs and ballistic missiles. Trump once again proved that he has a tin ear to nuance.
Once more, the current occupant of our White House has demonstrated that he has neither the wisdom nor the temperament to execute the duties of president of the greatest nation on earth.
