Lincoln said it best
President Lincoln once said, “A nation divided cannot stand alone.” The same may be said of our board of education. Simply disagreeing, particularly in public, on almost every issue in order to promote personal political agendas does not result in a positive direction for solving the crucial issues now facing the education of our children. Majority rule has always been in the forefront of our democratic process. Board of education members must learn to abide by this process. By making the public aware of their discontent with these decisions, sore losers on various issues will simply rip apart the ultimate goals of our school system. Personalities and conflicts do not need to be laundered in public. We need school board members who are able to disagree with their colleagues, but who will in the final analysis go along with the majority once decisions have been made. This is known as good faith and unity of organization. Otherwise the real losers are the youth of our community. Candidates for the board of education, whether new or incumbent, should be judged and voted upon in this light. When you vote on April 19, please keep this in mind. Your vote is critical. It can determine the future direction of education in Sparta. Kenyon L Pollison Sparta
