Newcomer chimes in
To the editor: As one of the newest residents of Sparta, I would like to share my perspective on the Sept. 26 referendum to redesign Sparta High School. I moved here this June to give my children the things that were missing in my previous community. I taught in Sparta High School from 1992 - 2000 and have always been enamored with the spirit, community, and achievement in this town. The students I taught here were the best of my career. The quality character of Sparta students is exactly what I aspire for my own children. The opportunities provided by the recreation and sports programs are unparalleled and contribute to the pride that exists in Sparta. I know firsthand of the academic opportunities provided by Sparta’s teachers and administrators. I support the plan to align the caliber of the high school’s core facilities with districts of similar wealth. The plan to replace the pod’ structures in the old part of the building is an excellent design move from educational, facilities, and safety standpoints. The Board of Education and district administrators have proposed a plan that satisfies long-term facilities needs. Sparta needs everyone to record their opinion at the polls on Sept. 26. Karl A.
