Seniors for school referendum

To the editor: Mr.Westerman in his recent thought provoking letter to the Sparta Independent concluded by asking that “all seniors will carefully reflect on how their vote will reflect on their taxes.” The flip side to that question is how the outcome of the 9/26 referendum will affect our property values. My wife and I, both senior citizens in our 70s on a fixed income, heeded Mr. Westerman’s advice. We gave serious thought to how we would cast our vote on the two questions. Without doubt or hesitation we have decided to vote for that which will best promote our self-interest. An excellent school system with the appropriate school facilities in support of a 21st century curriculum is foremost in our decision. We both recognize that all of us have a civic duty to provide financial support to our public schools. Each of us understands that the outcome of the referendum, whether or not we are senior citizens, will either result in maintaining and increasing our property values or diminishing them. That is the reason that as senior citizens we view both questions in the affirmative. Kenyon L & Martha W. Pollison Sparta
